Interactive Shading and Shadowing for Mixed Reality

For merging real and virtual worlds, the following three aspects have to be taken into account: geometry, illumination and time. In this paper we propose the framework to project shadow of real objects on virtual world for seamless mixed reality environment. We have also developed the system such that ser in IPT illuminate virtual and real world with virtual light, shadow of real objects is projected on virtual world in real-time.

We propose a simple method to express shading and shadowing of virtual objects in Mixed Reality especially appropriate for static architecture models in outdoor scenes. We create the shadows of the virtual objects in a fast and efficient way using a set of pre-rendered basis images and shadowing planes.
